The NCTJ takes your online privacy seriously. You may visit this site anonymously as often as you like without providing any personally identifying information such as your name, address or email address. We do not collect personally identifying information from you except when you specifically provide it, and we protect the information we receive. With your consent we may gather personal information from you through surveys, testimonials and questionnaires.
Using your personal information
Personal information submitted to us via this website will be used for the purposes specified in this privacy policy or in relevant parts of the website.
We may use your personal information to:
a. administer the website and update the personal information held on our database
b. enable your use of the services on this website
c. send you goods and supply services purchased via the website
d. to process exams or qualifications that you may have registered for
e. to send statements and invoices to you and collect payments from you
f. send you information and general communications
As part of our general communications, students and tutors on accredited courses, regional editors and corporate clients will receive NCTJ communications, including newsletters/emails. These will provide updates on changes to our qualifications, events related to students’ studies and relevant information and news. Recipients can unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link at the footer of each email.
We may disclose personal information that you have provided to other parties where this information is required to fulfil a task or activity in relation to the progression of a qualification or programme of study that you are undertaking. This may include colleges, universities, private learning providers, their employees and other agencies.
We may disclose personal information, achievement data and statistical information to the Learning Records Service.
In instances of candidate malpractice, under our obligations as a recognised awarding organisation in line with clauses A8.6 and B3 of our regulators’ general conditions of recognition, we may be required to share information about an investigation (which may include personal information, if relevant) with our regulators and other parties. This may include colleges, universities, private learning providers, their employees, awarding organisations and other agencies.
We will not, without your express consent, provide your personal information to third parties for the purpose of direct marketing.
Retention of your information
We will retain your information relating to examinations and qualifications unless you specifically ask us to delete it. Other personal information will be deleted or archived from our systems and records once there is no longer a requirement or useful purpose for keeping it.

Journalism Diversity Fund applicants
Personal information submitted to us via the Journalism Diversity Fund application form on this website will be used in the following ways:
The NCTJ will send a password protected link to allow shortlisters and interviewers to view your application in order to carry out the shortlisting process/prepare for interviews. This link will be changed immediately after the shortlisting/interview process has been carried out.
Your email address and telephone number will not be shared with interviewers and shortlisters and will only used by the NCTJ to contact you about your application.
Any sensitive data (copies of passports, birth certificates or other proof of residency) will be excluded from the applications shared with shortlisters and interview panellists and only used by the NCTJ to verify your eligibility.
All sensitive data will be destroyed after a decision on your application has been made. Applications will be stored by the NCTJ for statistical and HMRC auditing purposes for seven years, after which they will be destroyed.
Removing your data and email address.
If you have previously provided us with your email address or any other information and later decide that you do not want us to have it, you may ask us to delete it by emailing info@nctj.com.
Link to other sites
Our site contains links to other sites that are not under our control. Such other sites do not necessarily follow our privacy policies and may place their own cookies on your computer. This practice is standard on the web and we do not control cookies placed on your computer by third parties whose advertising or links appear on our site.

We would like to be able to tell you that the personal information you provide us is absolutely safe. Unfortunately, several well-publicised instances of computer security breaches make it impossible for anyone to be so confident. The NCTJ does however take all reasonable steps to protect the information you provide us from theft, alteration or unauthorised inspection and has agreements with its data processors that they comply with all GDPR security principles.
